Pictogram (Non-repeating Pantographs) – MeadowLyon Designs https://www.meadowlyon.com Quilt Patterns for the Truly Creative Tue, 19 Mar 2024 16:53:32 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.2 https://www.meadowlyon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/cropped-favicon-32x32.png Pictogram (Non-repeating Pantographs) – MeadowLyon Designs https://www.meadowlyon.com 32 32 Hunting https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/hunting/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/hunting/#respond Wed, 03 Nov 2021 20:16:49 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?post_type=product&p=20950 FALL is HUNTING SEASON!]]> “Hunting” is a 10″ Pictogram (non-repeating Pantograph) for Edge to Edge quilting. The pattern is 12 ft. long divided into 4 panels which can be interchanged or re-arranged as you like. Included with the paper pattern is a block depicting a “Bow Hunter” which can be interchanged with the “Shotgun” image.

Repeat the panels in different order to cover an entire quilt. I’ve shown a mock-up example of how it could look on my mock “Autumn Hunt” quilt. No need to have a “whole-cloth” quilt. The fun images of this pattern like to “peak out” through the piecing whenever they can.

The “Hunting Dog Block” is NOT included and must be purchased separately. Select it as a PDF Block Download option for this product.

12 Days of Christmas “NEW Paper Addition” – panels 4 & 5 https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/12-days-of-christmas-patch-panels-4-5/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/12-days-of-christmas-patch-panels-4-5/#respond Wed, 24 Sep 2014 16:13:19 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?post_type=product&p=9612 Did you buy an earlier paper version of 12 Days of Christmas? I wasn’t satisfied with the split panel, they were just too squeezed. But could never decide which of 2 options to replace it: E2E or Border.

I’ve now drawn 2 separate panels for the Pipers and Drummers that are concatenating. ie. They can be used for E2E quilting. If you already have the Paper Pictogram you can obtain these 2 PDF REPLACEMENT panels FREE.

As a pdf download you will need to print it off and tape together.

I’ve also offered a FREE download for 1 Piper & 1 Drummer so you can create your own border around the first 3 panels, if that is your preference.

1Piper & 1 Drummer PDF https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/1piper-1-drummer/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/1piper-1-drummer/#respond Mon, 22 Sep 2014 15:59:01 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?post_type=product&p=9563 Like my 12 Days of Christmas pattern? Here’s a FREE Piper and Drummer pdf to go along with it. You can use them to create a border for your 12 Days of Christmas Wallhanging.

How did this come about? I just couldn’t decide whether to make the last 2 stanzas into a border or an E2E. Hence the combination, of sorts in the first edition. After someone requested I make it work for E2E quilting, I decided to go ahead with that and offer these 2 individual figures so you could make you own border.

“Pianoforte” is another musical pattern you might like. You can see we are music lovers at our house. That’s our old trombone on the front room wall.

Pacific Northwest Pictogram 11″ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/pacific-northwest-1058/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/pacific-northwest-1058/#comments Sat, 28 Sep 2013 21:10:58 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?post_type=product&p=7775 I love the fern rich undergrowth of the Northern Pacific Forests. Maybe I expect a leprechaun or two. What I know I will find is pine scented scenery filled with salmon, bears, eagles, elk, wolves, foxes and even owls. What’s that? Do I hear a woodpecker knocking at that tree? There are even some Totem poles nestled in the forests. If you love the Northwest, you’ll love this pattern.

I’ve wanted to make this Pictogram for along time. Jodi Damman sent these wonderful quilt pictures for us to see. She says, “I absolutely love your pictograms. Backwoods and Pacific Northwest are my favorites. I’ve used them multiple times.”

We have a special group of borders that coordinate with this pattern, Totem Borders – 2.5, 3.5 & 6″ – Orcas, Canoes and Totems! They’ll be great around your Northwest quilt.

Truckin’ Along Pictogram https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/truckin-along-2301/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/truckin-along-2301/#respond Fri, 09 Aug 2013 06:46:18 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?post_type=product&p=7517 Have you ever driven across I-80? There are ruts in the Highway from the trucks. Cars wander back and forth from one side to the other not knowing where to stay. Once we pulled into a garage to find out what was wrong with our car. The man laughed. He said dozens of people stop for the same reason – but it’s just the ruts in the road!

One of my customers requested this big rig pattern. I hope she likes it. The trucks are 8 inches high and of varying lengths depending on what kind: tankers, semis, dump trucks, cattle cars, etc. (Hope I got the terminology right?)

This pattern is 8″ wide & 12′ long with no repeats.

The distinctive feature of a Pictogram is that it’s a pantograph with NO repeats. It’s a complete 12′ roll comprised of 6 trucks all “hooked” together. They can be used as a border or can also be quilted like an E2E or B2B giving lots of pictorial subject matter to your quilt.

To avoid placing an image on top of itself all the way down the quilt I recommend starting at a different truck for each “pass.” After starting, continue quilting through as many sections as needed for that row. You won’t have to stop – the line is continuous. For alignment help see the “Tips” section.

LIMITED OFFER: We have a few copies of this pattern enlarged to 10 inches wide. It is cut off at the normal length of 12 feet.

SportsCar Classics 7″ Pictogram https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/sportscar-classics-2300/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/sportscar-classics-2300/#comments Fri, 09 Aug 2013 06:40:54 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?post_type=product&p=7515 Vroom! Vroom! A friend drove me to school in an MG my first day of student teaching. Since the steering wheel was on the opposite side, all my High School students thought it was my car! My son is a car fanatic. Maybe you know someone like that. He’d probably like a quilt with these snappy cars stitched all over it! This pattern is 7 inches wide with each of the 8 cars 16 inches long. At each end is a front view that measures 9″ to be used to offset rows.

Ski Slopes 11″ Pictogram https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/ski-slopes-2287/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/ski-slopes-2287/#respond Wed, 13 Mar 2013 03:34:55 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?p=5646 Hit the Slopes! You’ve got to have this great panto for your favorite skiier.

I grew up in LA and was cheated with no snow, so when I went away to Utah for college I took skiing for PE. Wow, was my ski instructor ever good looking!

If you own “Winter Games” you might notice a familiar aerialist. I liftied a few of my favorite skiers from WG and added lots more to the mix.

This pattern is 11″ wide & 12′ long with no repeats.

The distinctive feature of a Pictogram is that it’s a pantograph with NO repeats. It’s a complete 12′ roll comprised of 4 panels of 3′ each, all “hooked” together. I’ve added a dotted line at each 36″ section. While they can be stacked up as shown in the picture, they can also be quilted like an E2E or B2B giving lots of pictorial subject matter to your quilt. OR – if you like one panel best, why not repeat just that panel over the whole quilt?

To avoid placing an animal or image on top of itself all the way down the quilt I recommend starting at a different 36″ division for each “pass.” After starting, continue quilting through as many sections as needed for that row. You won’t have to stop – the line is continuous. For a full sized quilt I might make 7-8 rows, starting at various sections of the panto.

For alignment help see the “Tips” section.

The 12 Days of Christmas 11″ Pictogram https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/the-12-days-of-christmas-2276/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/the-12-days-of-christmas-2276/#respond Tue, 11 Dec 2012 05:53:30 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?p=5300 This striking Whole Cloth design boasts all the images you’d expect. Count them and see! (I have to admit it was challenging fitting everything in!)

It is planned to be used as a whole cloth piece. The five panels of the pictogram roll should be placed to form a 36″ x 55″ picture. If you’d like to create a border with pipers and drummers we offer a FREE DOWNLOAD of 1 Piper and 1 Drummer that you can copy to march round the panels.

The meshing panels make it possible to also use this beautiful pattern for E2E Quilting.

Do you want a Bed quilt for Christmas? “Special Order” a 15-inch copy. When this enlarged pattern is quilted it will create a rectangle almost 50″(49.25) x 75.” Adding an extra row of 3″ Pear Vine PDF as borders (Or enlarge the pears on your printer) will extend it even more. Stitch it over a “pieced quilt” of Christmasy fabrics and your kids can search for the images of all 12 Days of Christmas!

HERE’S ANOTHER IDEA! MAKE IT A COLORING BOOK QUILT! I’ve attached A Mock-up Example.

I’ve often thought of making this beautiful design into an appliqued quilt, but lack of time has prevented it.

(I’ve also pictured the Old Version with this page. If you want that version I can print it for you. In the original version the bottom panel was very cramped.)

If you purchased the original version and would like the 2 new free PDF panels – click here.

Joyful Birth 15″ Pictogram https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/joyful-birth-1502-15/ https://www.meadowlyon.com/shop/joyful-birth-1502-15/#comments Mon, 01 Oct 2012 22:13:32 +0000 https://www.meadowlyon.com/?p=4987 This pattern is 15″ wide with no repeats. It’s an enlarged version of our 11″ size. It has 4 panels of 49″ each. Joyful exuberance is expressed in our childlike representation of Christ’s birth. In this whole cloth pattern Mary (holding baby Jesus) and Joseph’s faces beam from the stable, shepherds look up in wonder and joy, wisemen hurry from afar, and a choir of angels sing over the scene lit by the Christmas star. This pattern also includes camels, child, donkey, animals, village, and palm trees. The Hebrew lettering says, Jeshua The Messiah.

Do you want a Bed quilt for Christmas? When this enlarged pattern is quilted it will create a rectangle almost 50″(49.25) x 60.” Adding an extra row of 8″ Camel Train or 10″ Palm Trees could lengthen it for a twin quilt. Or adding the Camel Train on the borders as I did will widen it to 66.”

The quilted examples are 11″ size, but it will give you an idea of what to expect – just bigger. The Nativity quilt pictured used the Camel Train as a border. After the quilt was “quilted” I added the applique. You see it extends over the stitching in a few places, but I like the effect. I’ve also made it reversible. When I applied the applique, I machine stitched through and at the same time attached applique to the back. Now I’m painting some of the pictorial motifs with Tsukeniko Inks. I don’t know which side I like best. I’ll post it as soon as I get it finished. This would be a great project for your family to “color” their quilt for Christmas!

Wendy Bynner stitched the beautiful table runner and Janice Bahrt the lovely red whole cloth.

The distinctive feature of a Pictogram is that it’s a pantograph with NO repeats. It’s a complete 12′ roll comprised of 4 panels of 3′ each, all “hooked” together. I’ve added a dotted line at each 36″ section. (For this enlarged version the length of each panel is about 45.”) While they can be stacked up as shown in the picture, they can also be quilted like an E2E or B2B giving lots of pictorial subject matter to your quilt.
