The original size is 10.5″ X 10.25 wide. but it’s reduced to fit a single sheet of paper. You can make him any size you like. I stood him on an orange background with a raffia bow for a wall hanging. He also likes being a cuddly pillow stitched onto a starry night background and roughed up a bit with a chenille technique. Let me know how he (or she) likes your house.

Lady Liberty Spirals

The Statue of Liberty stands before the world as a symbol of freedom and right. In this “variable” pattern choose where or if to include “Liberty” in the design. The spirals make an exciting overall on their own – like a sky of spinning rockets.

This pattern is 10 inches wide and is interlocking. An extra Lady Liberty block at the end, can be cut off and placed in the Block A position anywhere along the stitching row. See diagram for clarification.

Americana Flying Angel 5″ Border

There are two nostalgic border patterns on this roll. It includes a 5″ border of three very patriotic Angels flying with flags fluttering and a 3.5″ decorative border inspired by that on an American Stoneware jug. You’ll love seeing these angels waving their flags around your next red, white, and blue quilt.

What is American Stoneware?

American Stoneware is a specific type of salt glazed pottery that was popular during the late 18^th– early 19^th centuries. It has been described as the “tupperware” of the era. The familiar white stoneware crockery was painted with designs of cobalt blue before firing. Eagles, stylized florals, houses, even Lincoln and his wife were painted in a folk art style on the pots before firing.

Free Nativity Quilt Tutorial

Several years ago I had a wonderful experience drawing the Joyful Birth Pictogram. It was a time of reflection and study, since I wanted it to be just right! While drawing, as I often do, I formed an image in my mind of a quilt to stitch it on. As usual, I was in a rush so my friend Mildred quilted it. Last year, one of my sons suggested I make them for all 8 children. So in 2014, I made 8 more—or more correctly my friend Pat with a Statler, quilted them. I did however do the applique on all 9 quilts.

As I was placing the applique pieces over and over I wondered if some of you might want the pattern. So I started taking pictures of the process. The following is essentially a journal of the process with some advice and tips along the way. I hope you’ll enjoy the experience.

I made mine reversible with different fabric on the back. I started painting it with Tsuneniko inks. I almost like this side better.

While you can stitch this quilt anyway you wish, it was designed to feature MeadowLyon’s “Joyful Birth” 11″ Pictogram, as well as the “Palm Trees” and “Camel Train” borders. These pantographs are not included in the free download but can be purchased here.

Be aware before you print that this file is 21 pages long and heavy on images.

Cuddly Snowman Pillow

Several years ago (Can it really be that many?!?) our littlest daughter was having her winter birthday. As a fun activity each of the 10 yr. old girls cut out and made a little pillow to take home. I felt good about it because they were learning some useful skills besides having lots of fun. This little guy looked so cute on their beds.
