How fun! More international inspiration. See it stitched up by my friend Sue.
Chintz (from the plural of chint) was originally glazed calico textile, specifically those imported from India, printed with designs featuring flowers and other patterns in different colors, typically on a light plain background. In India, these fabrics were known as cint in Hindi, a word derived from the Sanskrit word citra, which means “variegated.” One major center of production for these fabrics was Calicut, which loans its name to “calico.”
